Thank you for considering taking part in an interview. Before you make up your mind, we would like to give you some more information about the project and the interview.
About the project
The Erasmus+ funded IMAGE project aims to improve the employability of higher education students and graduates on the autism spectrum. We will develop an employability toolkit for autistic university students, training materials for careers advisors, and a series of good practice guides for higher education professionals and employers. If you want to know more about the project, read the full details and aims.
How you can participate
If you are autistic and currently at university, or you have completed your degree in the past 5 years, then we invite you to be interviewed by one of our researchers. This will help us greatly in gaining a better understanding of the employment experiences of autistic students at university and after graduation in the UK.
Do you have to take part?
No. Participation is completely voluntary and based on your written consent. You can withdraw at any time. And up until a few weeks after the interview, you can contact us and we will remove all information we hold about you.
About the interview
We call it an ‘interview’ but in reality it’s an informal chat, in a comfortable and quiet space. It will take place in February 2019, either at a university location or, if you prefer, at a location of your choice. There is also the option to conduct the interview via Skype.
One of our trained researchers will conduct the interview and it will take approximately 30 to 60 minutes. We will ensure that noise and other distractions in and around the interview location are kept to a minimum on the day.
If you travel to the interview location, we will reimburse your local travel costs (car or public transport only – unfortunately we are unable to cover taxi costs). Please remember to keep any travel receipts.
To help you feel more comfortable during the interview, you can bring a trusted person with you. This may be a family member, partner or friend. We will cover their travel costs too. At the interview we will provide water, coffee, tea and biscuits.
How we will use your information
A few weeks before the interview you will receive an information sheet with details of the day, the location and the interviewer. We will also ask about any preferences you may have so that we can make the experience as comfortable as possible for you.
During the interview we will ask you questions about your university experience and employment experience. We will use the understanding gained from your responses to develop resources that will help future generations of autistic university students in the UK and across Europe.
The data will only be used for scientific research and reporting. All personally identifiable information will either be changed or destroyed so that participants cannot be identified from the research reports.
